5th Species
Fifth species is mixed species counterpoint - any of the combinations used in species one to four is acceptable. The idea is to mix note-against-note, two against one, four against one and syncopated patterns artistically, to sustain musical interest and variety in the exercise.
The rules about voice leading and use of dissonance from the relevant species still apply.
Print out any of these cantus firmi and complete them in fifth species counterpoint. You could also use them for practice in any of the other species.
